Classic cycling livery has taken a lot of cues from one stream of modernism; the "Hard Edge" school. Artists and designers like Piet Mondrian, Paul Rand, and Eva Zeisel were big influences. But there is another stream in modernism that is more fluid and painterly; "Expressionism", think artists like De Kooning and Rothko.
