The MSR FreeLite 3 Tent gives us and a couple of friends a roomy home base as we venture into the backcountry without weighing down anyone's pack. Weighing well under three pounds, the FreeLite 3 is featherlight, especially if we break it up among our hiking partners to keep our packs small on multi-day trips. The large, rectangular living area and 43-inch roof height give us plenty of room to move around or play a game of cards before calling it a night. The Durashield weatherproof treatment on the tub floor and rain fly shields us from summer storms, while the durable DAC poles stand strong in gusty winds. When the weather clears up, we can remove the fly to watch the night sky float by and increase ventilation to stay cool in warm weather. The tent has two vestibules to keep our gear safe and dry, with gear lofts and side pockets to keep headlamps, power banks, and books organized as we rest.
