You're a minimalist at heart, and are interested in lugging the smallest amount of kit when you're in the backcountry. You love the idea of riding with a dynamo for the awesome feeling of self sufficiency it provides. But your riding ends well before the sun goes down, and you'd rather trade off the benefits of a dynamo light for a lighter overall load on your bike. You really just want a way to charge your devices when you're riding, and you don't want to mess with the complexity of integrating a whole system on your bike.Enter the kLite Minimalist Dynamo Charging System. The kit includes a kLite Micro 1x USB Charger, a Minimalist unswitched wire loom (33 inches in length) that connects the USB charger to your dynamo hub, and zip ties to connect the wire loom to your bike. The system will take you minutes to configure and before you know it, you'll be converting the 3W variable voltage alternating current from your dynamo hub to two controlled streams of 5V DC from the Dual USB Charger. Mount the device in a convenient cockpit location and you'll have a stream of USB power whenever your wheels are turning faster than 8MPH. The device is weatherproof but you'll want to avoid tons of mud since it can jam up the USB ports, so it's best to keep it out of the direct wheel spray. Some prefer to keep it inside their top tube bag, others mount it to the underside of the handlebar, the head tube or to the side of the top tube. Minimalists like yourself will appreciate the mounting system. Use a light coating of dielectric grease on the exterior metallic components and on USB input terminals to maximize the electrical connection and reduce the potential for corrosion, particularly if the USB charger is mounted externally and when riding in salty air, winter months, or in persistent rain. Do not use dielectric terminal grease on the yellow end connectors of the kLite system - these are waterproof by design and the use of dielectric grease here will make the kLite friction-fit connectors vibrate loose on the trail.
